The Key to Successful Music Ministry
While ministry is a reality which cannot be seen in and of itself – many evaluate the effectiveness of church music ministry by what can be observed with our senses:
What we see – especially the numbers – bigger looks better.
What we hear – studio quality sound is the goal – because live stream…
God, as the recipient of our ministry in music, is the decider of what is successful. He lays out the foundation for us:
Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully.
Psalm 24:3-4 (ESV)
Before the first orchestra, choir, band, or ensemble is formed – before the first notes or words are played or sung – the spiritual standing of the musicians determine the success of the ministry. Clean hands and pure hearts (works and thought life/attitudes) are the requirements to enter the presence of the Lord – and offer acceptable worship and praise. We are made clean as we trust in the Lord Jesus for salvation – to forgive our sins and give us His righteousness. We remain right with God by confessing and repenting of sins as they occur.
Whatever is involved in music ministry, success is only possible when everyone involved have clean hands and pure hearts – thus being right with God.
